Happy Valentines Day
Well, it's that time of year again where the candy stores and flower shops have lines around the corner. Yes, I I stand in line too, for the flowers anyway!
Another great way to say I love you is to treat your sweetie or each other to travel or something special while you are on a cruise, land vacation, or in getting to wherever you are going to enjoy a holiday. Here are a few ideas for doing something really special for someone you love.
Flights
When flying to your destination, consider buying up to Premium Economy or if you really want to splurge, Business Class. Last year I was able to upgrade to Business Class on our return flight from our Hawaii cruise for $360.00 in fully reclinable seats on Delta. This was $900.00 less than the original purchase price. "What, how so?" you say. All you need to do is periodically check your flight record on the airline you are flying with. You do so by going to the carrier site, then click on My Trips and put in your reservation number. Once in your record, look for upgrades in Premium Economy and Business Class. If you are traveling Internationally and want to try Business Class, call us for a quote. We buy International Business Class tickets from wholesale consolidators who do not sell to the general public. The savings are, at times, mind-boggling.
Trains
If you are traveling on Amtrak, have a look at the difference between Coach and Business Class seats. It is not as significant as airlines even for longer journeys and a lot less than sleeper compartments.
Rental Cars
Do yourself a favor and join a major Rental Car company frequent traveler program like Avis Preferred or Hertz Gold. It's free! When you rent a car as a preferred member, most locations have free upgrade or choose your car programs. Also upgrades to really nice vehicles, like convertibles can be negotiated and cost less than pre-booking.
Cruises
When you are already booked on a cruise, consider buying a spa package, thermal suite, or upgrading your cabin. A lot of amenities are available and in many cases it's cheaper to pre-buy services in advance.
Land Packages
Accommodation upgrades at all inclusive resorts or on tour packages are also a good way to do something special for someone you love, including YOURSELF!
